No. 1
Windmill Palm
EUR 83.00

Hemp Palm - Click here to read more...

This palm makes a wonderful gift and is very cold hardy!

The Windmill Palm is one of the most cold hardy palms available. It is beautifully compact and grows to heights of 20-40 ft. The erect, single trunk of Windmill Palm is covered with dense, brown, hairlike fibers, and the three-foot-wide, fan-shaped fronds extend from 1.5-foot-long, rough-edged petioles. The trunk appears to be wrapped in burlap. There are fine examples of mass plantings where palms are spaced six to 10 feet apart around a patio or sitting area. They have also been used very successfully lining an entry walk to a large building. This adds a formal elegance to any structure, especially one with a glass facade.

This handsome topiary with it's variegated foliage is excellent for flower-arranging and will be appreciated by anyone with an eye for colour!

It is also delicately scented and has silvery-white autumn flowers with lustrous, dark green leaves with a bold, dark yellow central mark. It is easy to grow too! Perfect for lifting sombre areas of a garden border or for growing as an informal hedge in an exposed, coastal site. Also known as the Silverthorn it can be quite a sprawling shrub that shoots scores of long branchless stems into the air during the growing season. If grown in the open and left unpruned this beautiful shrub will form a symmetrical mound of foliage that is up to 15 ft (4.6 m) high and 20 ft (6.1 m) in diameter the ultimate size being dependent on variety and climate.

This is a beautifull small tree, great for a small garden and fully hardy. What a treat for that someone special in your life!

Four inch wide pendulous clusters of pale pink flowers appear in May and are followed in autumn by drooping bunches of large gleaming white or pink-tinged marble-like fruits which persist well after the leaves have fallen.

The flowers are attractive to insects but birds leave the berries alone which gives a longer display. Likes full sun to dappled shade and is tolerant of most soils.

Pindo Palm

What a versatile little palm this is! With the fruit being good for jams and jellies, the oil being good for margarine and the pith being used to make bread, it makes a great all-round gift!

This cold-hardy, single-trunked palm is easily recognized by its rounded canopy of blue-grey, strongly-recurved, graceful fronds which curve in toward the trunk. The heavy, stocky trunks are covered with persistent leaf bases. Large, showy clusters of orange-yellow, juicy, edible fruits, the size of large dates, are produced and often used to make jams or jellies.
